Puerto Rico has all the trappings of a classic Caribbean vacation destination – expansive beaches, calm, azure waters, lively urban energy, a lush rainforest interior and dramatic mountain vistas. What really sets it apart though is the jovial, celebratory atmosphere that rings throughout the island on a daily basis; there's always a Latin-inspired fiesta in motion, either in the streets or on the beach. The residents here are renowned for their welcoming smiles and festive spirit, so don't be shy and join the party!

Puerto Rico and its idyllic offshore islands, Vieques, Mona, Culebra and more provide some of the most striking settings in the Caribbean. Although San Juan offers all of the comforts you may crave – fine dining, luxurious spas, first-class hotels and resorts and great shopping . The smaller islands also have lots to offer for the most discerning tastes. The Vieques Biobay

Head out on a night time kayaking excursion through this magnificent bioluminescent bay (the largest of three bioluminescent bays on the territory). Your paddles will glow with every stroke, as you glide further into the mystical mangroves with fish streaking below you like underwater lightening. The amazing glowing effect is caused from the mixing of salt and fresh waters that flow in from the Caribbean Sea and nearby rivers.

Camuy Caves

The Rio Camuy River Cave Park in Lares, Puerto Rico is an excursion that adventure seekers simply cannot miss. This is the third largest cave system in the world and a tour here includes a walk along the underground river and venturing approximately halfway through subterranean ravines. There are also special adrenaline-pumping excursions for more experienced cave hikers, including body rafting, mud sliding and free jumping into the large winding river that is located approximately 150 metres below the surface.

Celebration

Puerto Rico is perfect for destination weddings. The island's strength lies in its outstanding diversity of theme choices – whether you want the trusted and true romantic intimacy of a beachfront ceremony, the charming elegance of historical Old San Juan, the backdrop of a luscious rainforest setting or even the wondrous environment of a subterranean cavern, it can all happen here. The most enthusiastic bachelor/bachelorette parties are often held in Puerto Rico as well; there's no better place to enjoy a night on the town than in San Juan.

Puerto Rico offers several categories of venues for any size corporate event being arranged, from large American-style conference centres to small taverns ready to host an impromptu gathering.

Dining & Nightlife

There are many international dining options in Puerto Rico, which means this is a destination that will satisfy the cravings of every taste bud. You can stick to a trusted favourite such as Caribbean barbeque, Italian, Japanese and Mexican, or try something uniquely Puerto Rican. Their native cuisine is a delicious fusion of Spanish, African and native Taínos dishes. The mixing of culinary traditions is very popular in Puerto Rico, particularly in San Juan. Here, it is common to receive high praise on restaurants that serve Caribbean-Mediterranean and Latin-Asian delights.

The nightlife in Puerto Rico is infectious. Your first night on the town will have you asking yourself how you'll ever keep up. The busiest dance clubs play the region's best Salsa, Reggaeton, Bomba y Plena and other Latin-inspired beats. If sipping quality, aged liqueurs and wines is what you're after, then there are many laid back and elegant lounges throughout San Juan to choose from.

Fajarado Island

If staying close to San Juan, take a day and head to nearby Fajardo, the country's water sports centre and the primary disembarkation point for the Spanish Virgin Islands of Vieques and Culebra. From here you can reserve a luxury catamaran to explore the gorgeous coastline, and even head to the coral-rich waters of the La Cordillera islands for some fantastic snorkeling and diving opportunities.

El Yunque National Forest

On dry land, be sure to head to El Yunque National Forest. Located in the Sierra de Luquillo mountain range, this protected area spans some 28,000 acres and is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. Forest System. Noted for its biodiversity, El Yunque is home to more than 400 different plant species, has a dozen well-maintained trails for hiking, rivers and waterfalls for cooling off, abundant wildlife, many examples of ancient Taino petroglyphs (rock engravings) and amazing views.

Golf

If views of the mountain, rather than views from the mountain, are more your style, then hit the links instead. There are two world-class golf courses located at the foot of this mountain range that stretch out along dazzling the coastline.
